A registered sex offender has been sentenced to life in prison. Terry Lee Wilson received the sentence on June 18 after being found guilty by a Platte County jury in February of three counts of first degree statutory sodomy.Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said, "This defendant repeatedly committed serious sexual offenses, causing significant harm to numerous victims. It is both just and necessary that he now will serve multiple life sentences, ensuring he can no longer endanger another young woman." Wilson had previously been convicted of multiple counts of felony attempted indecent liberties with a child in Wyandotte County in 2003. He received probation in those cases. He was a registered sex offender when he committed the crimes in Platte County.
In the Platte County case, prosecutors proved that Wilson sexually abused a young girl for over a decade. The victim testified that the sexual abuse escalated over a number of years. She eventually contacted MOCSA, the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault and disclosed the sexual abuse. Because Zahnd’s office charged Wilson as a predatory sexual offender, the minimum possible sentence in the case was life in prison, and he was sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment.Zahnd said, “I am very proud of this young girl for coming forward, ultimately leading to a dangerous man now spending the rest of his life in prison. We will continue to do all we can in Platte County to rid our streets of sexual predators.”
The case was investigated by the Kansas City Police Department. It was tried by Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Blake Sherer and Kaylee Haight. A photo of Wilson is attached. If you need further information, please contact our office's media liaison, Tanya Faherty, at the number below.
