Position Summary
The Marketing, Outreach, and Education Coordinator is responsible for implementing communication strategies that inform and engage the public on the services, responsibilities, and processes of the Assessor’s Office. This role supports transparency, education, and public trust through outreach campaigns, educational initiatives, media relations, and the formal documentation of existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and internal procedures. The Coordinator serves as a liaison between the Assessor’s Office and the community, ensuring that both public-facing information and internal documentation are clear, accurate, and professionally maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a public communication and outreach strategy aligned with the goals of the Assessor’s Office.
- Produce engaging and accessible content for brochures, mailers, newsletters, website updates, social media posts, and public announcements.
- Coordinate and deliver public education initiatives on topics such as reassessments, personal property declarations, tax implications, and appeals.
- Represent the Assessor’s Office at community events, town halls, informational meetings, and local forums.
- Serve as the main point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate public-facing communication with local organizations and partners.
- Develop and maintain public education materials explaining complex assessment procedures in clear and understandable terms.
- Collaborate with internal staff to identify outreach opportunities and respond to public inquiries or concerns.
- Measure the effectiveness of outreach programs using feedback, attendance, and engagement data.
- Document existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and internal procedures for public communication, outreach activities, and education initiatives. This includes:
- Interviewing staff and reviewing current practices.
- Writing user-friendly manuals and guides based on established procedures.
- Organizing and maintaining an up-to-date procedural manual for internal use.
- Ensure all outreach activities comply with applicable laws, communication standards, and County policies.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of public communication, outreach strategy, and community engagement techniques.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills tailored for both public and internal audiences.
- Proficiency with graphic design and publishing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and website content management systems.
- Ability to clearly document and organize existing procedures in a professional and accessible format.
- Familiarity with local government functions or public administration, particularly in property assessment or civic education.
- Excellent time management, organization, and interpersonal collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Primarily office-based with regular travel to community events and public meetings.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Must be able to lift and carry outreach materials and equipment (up to 25 lbs.).
Language Skills
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact with the public, coworkers, and officials in a respectful, constructive, and effective manner.
Mathematical Skills
- Basic math skills for tracking metrics, preparing reports, or analyzing outreach data.
Certificate Needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- At least two (2) years of experience in community outreach, public relations, or educational programming.
- Demonstrated experience in documenting existing processes or procedures is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience working in a governmental or public sector environment is a plus.
- Valid Missouri driver’s license required.
