4'x8' Gingerbread Replica of the Vatican
If you haven’t seen the breathtaking 4'x8' gingerbread replica of the Vatican it’s not too late!  Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 407 Cherry Street in Weston, MO will have it on display in their parish hall now through December 23rd. The hours are:
Monday through Friday 10am-4pm
Sat/Sun 12pm-5pm.
Free will donations will be accepted to help those in the surrounding area who need home heating assistance.
Lori Mathews, Lisa Stiffler and Joan Edelman created this beautifully detailed design. They used 30 lbs of powdered sugar, 20 cups of margarine, 10 quarts of corn syrup, 12 lbs of brown sugar, 48 lbs of flour and 9 bags of marshmallows!  It is worth a day trip to lovely Weston to see this amazing piece of art.

The FREE event was reservation only, with a full house and an extensive wait-list. The occasion was held at the Platte City Civic Center provided by Platte City Parks & Recreation. A Pancake Breakfast(plus other breakfast goodies) was provided by Northland Career Center Culinary Arts students guided by Chef Brandi Moritz. Photography by Fran Mattox. This will be the last featured trail of the 5 month program.

Experience a holiday tradition from yesteryear as you hop on a hay wagon decorated with Christmas lights and ride around Jowler Creek’s decorated vineyard while listening to Christmas Carols and sipping on a warm festive beverage.  Holiday Hayrides start at 5:00 p.m. and leave approximately every 30-minutes thru 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Holiday Hayride are $15/person and include a souvenir Jowler Creek mug and a delicious serving of our warm spiced wine or wine hot chocolate.

Northern Lights Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Zona Rosa will kick off the 2018 holiday season with a special lighting ceremony to spotlight the 50 foot Christmas tree in Town Square. When your Passport has received at last three merchant signatures bring the Passport back to the Welcome Center to be entered into a drawing for a Weston Gift Certificate! If you'd prefer to just enter the drawing without using the Passport, those entries will be $1.00 each. The drawing will take place at 5:30pm Saturday -- the winner does not need to be present to win!  The merchants will have many awesome sales specials along with all their Holiday merchandise. Northland Community Choir

The Northland Community Choir will present “Great Music from the Great War:  A Centennial Celebration”, a concert featuring music from World War I on Sunday, November 11th at 3:00 pm at the Parkville Presbyterian Church as part of a three-day celebration to honor veterans.   Under the direction of Paul Erickson, the choir is committed to making music matter in the community and performs four concerts throughout the year.  The community is invited to attend a Thanksgiving Community Dinner following the concert in Whipple Hall at the church. 
Tuesday, November 13th,  will feature a special Veterans appreciation event to be held at the Parkville Presbyterian Church with exhibits open at 4:00 pm and a special presentation at 7:00 pm.  Guest speaker Capt. Tommy Clack retired after 47+ years of military and government employment and has been involved in over 300 memorials honoring veterans/military and their families.”

Did you know the Platte County Commission developed the Outreach Grant Program to promote development of local parks and recreation facilities and programs to enhance the quality of life for all residents.

The program strengthens partnerships between the County, local governments and non-profit organizations to meet our common goals.

Approximately $250,000 is available each year for disbursement through this program. Applicants must be a local government, school district or other public subdivision of the state of Missouri.

Parkville to Honor Pearl Harbor Veteran
October 10, 10:15
Parkville citizens are asked to line the sidewalks on 1st Street outside Stone Canyon and Edward Jones to honor Harold Lloyd Head as his remains are carried by motorcade from Parkville, MO to his final resting place in Laclede, MO.  Flags will be provided by the American Legion Post 318.
 S2c Harold Lloyd Head was killed in the Dec 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.  His remains have been recently identified and returned to his family. Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, Missouri has been entrusted with the final arrangements, More information can be found here.
