County Clerk helpful Information and Links:

To start a business you do not have to apply with the County Clerk’s Office, however you must apply with the State of Missouri – http://www.sos.mo.gov/business/formsAndServices.asp

A business selling items by “retail” will need to apply for a “Merchant’s and Manufacturer’s License” with the Platte County Collector. If you are providing a service, no license is required with the County. (You must have a federal tax I.D. number in order to apply) - http://www.co.platte.mo.us/docs/collector/merchant_mfg.html

To apply to be a Notary, you may log on to the Missouri Secretary of State link or
call the County Clerk to have a book mailed to you: http://www.sos.mo.gov/business/commissions

Items you will need in order for the County Clerk to swear you in:
$10,000 Notary Bond
$6.00 Cash or Check (payable to Platte County Clerk)

To be sworn in you may come in Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - to 5 p.m., no appointment is necessary.  On rare occasions we may close the office for lunch, so it is always a good idea to call if you are planning on coming in during the hours of 11:30 to 1:30.  You may call our office at 816-858-3340.

Liquor License Information:
A business shall obtain a County Liquor License after first applying with the City in which the business is located, and then with the State of Missouri. Once you obtain your state license, you may fax it to the Platte County Clerk’s Office at 816-858-3363. The manager’s name, home address and phone number must accompany the fax to complete the application. Upon receipt, we will generate an application and can either fax or mail it to you.  Applications must be signed by the managing officer in front of a Notary or the County Clerk.  The application and a check or money order payable to the Platte County Clerk may be mailed to: 415 Third Street, Suite 30, Platte City, MO 64079.  Walk-ins are also welcome.

State Liquor License fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 of each year.
Platte County’s fiscal year runs from January 1 to December 31 of each year. Applications usually go out the first week in November so that you have at least 30 days to renew. If a business opens within the middle of the year, rates will be prorated. 

Tow License:
All wrecker or tow service businesses registered with the United States Department of Transportation that are either physically located in Platte County or any tow company which conducts more than 50% of their business in Platte County are required by law (Section 301.344 RSMo.) to obtain a Tow Truck Permit.  This permit may qualify you for the Sheriff’s rotation list.

Auction Licenses:
Auction Licenses may be obtained by applying through the County Clerk’s Office. 
License fees are:

10 Day - $5.00, 1 Month - $10.00, 3 Months - $20.00, 6 Months - $30.00 or 12 Months – $50.00.  A two ($2.00) fee applies to each license.  Those with a 12 month license will be sent renewal notices in November and are due in December.

Other Services:
The Platte County Clerk’s Office provides notary services free of charge to residents of Platte County.  We feel your tax dollars have paid for us to be notaries and feel this is a helpful service to the public.  There are certain documents that we are unable to notarize so please call ahead.

Certification of original documents may be administered by the County Clerk’s Office for a $3 fee per certification.

The secretary of state issues Certificates of Authority for notaries. They may be obtained by submitting the original document requiring the certificate with a written request for the certificate to the Office of Secretary of State.  The fee for each certificate is $10.00 and should accompany the request. Certificates of authority for a notary public may be obtained at the Secretary of State Offices located in Jefferson City, Kansas City, St. Louis or Springfield
