David Christian was appointed Assessor by Governor Jay Nixon in May, 2011, to fill the unexpired term of Lisa Pope. He retired in April, 2011, as Manager, Government Affairs with Kansas City Power & Light Co. after 22 ½ years. He had previously engaged in the private practice of law in Clay and Platte counties primarily representing small businesses and served as State Representative from 1977-1983. He received an AB with honors in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1970 and a JD cum laude in 1972.

He is a widower with four adult children and ten grandchildren and lives in the Coves. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Platte City Chamber of Commerce and Rotary International. He was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1972, receiving an honorable discharge a First Lieutenant.
