Platte County Sheriff's Department

Citizen Corps

Following the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, Platte County officials established “Citizen Corps” to unite local elected officials, emergency responders and volunteers to respond to crisis situations. Since that time, the group has expanded its focus to prepare citizens against more common events, such as weather-related disasters and house fires.

Citizen Corps is a component of the USA Freedom Corps initiative established by President George W. Bush after the terrorist tragedies. Through this organization, citizens have the opportunity to volunteer to help their communities prepare for and respond to emergencies.

OUR MISSION:

The mission of the Platte County Citizen Corps is to improve public safety in Platte County at home, at work and at school by increasing disaster resistance through public education and the use of volunteers.

CERT Courses

The best way to prepare for disaster is to fill our community with citizens that are prepared to respond to unexpected events. The Platte County Citizen Corps frequently sponsors emergency preparedness courses provided by the Community Education Response Team or CERT.
